As a child I always loved the stories my parents would tell about growing up in the Midlands, and woven through those stories were tales of miners and carpenters, sailors lost at sea, a run away bride and even landed gentry (yet to be discovered!). I always longed to find out more and as an adult I started to thread together those memories and create my own family tree, all brought to life by the stories from my parents.
Over the years I have used my interest and skills to create a family trees and house histories for friends and families and have helped local authorise locate next of kin when there have been no obvious relatives. Recent projects have included researching a WW1 soldier who’s grave a local man tended, reuniting a family with a Boer War medal found in a skip, and building a family tree for a man who’s grandfather attempted to murder his grandmother - and yes reader they did stay together after he left prison.
Much of my research is online, but I can access London archives and can travel to other records offices for a fee. I love making the past come alive for others, whether it’s discovering who used to live in your house, helping you build your family tree or reluniting loved ones with a medal.
